Our land and its microclimate
Sauternais'area
is located on the left bank of the Garonne, at 40 km upstream
from Bordeaux. This
area is composed of 5 villages: o
Sauternes,
Preignac, Bommes, Fargues, all located on the right bank of Ciron.
(tributary of Garonne) o
Barsac
located on the left bank of Ciron. Barsac,
old Royal provostship, benefits from the double appellation Sauternes and Barsac. The miracle of
Sauternais Barsac
appellation
benefits from a specific microclimate due to the
confluence of cold waters from Ciron and those, warmer, of
Garonne; this develops in autumn morning mists which let quickly place
to the sun. This climatic alternation helps the development
of noble rot (Botrytis Cinerea). It is endowed with soil made up of various
strata of silica, chalk and gravel forming an harmonious entity. These
strata , deposited with the passing of time, enable the wine to acquire
its finess, strength and lusciousness.
